For Janine Gutierrez, winning her very first acting award is a major feat, especially because she bested her very own mother!

In the recently concluded 4th Urduja Heritage Film Festival Janine won as Best Supporting Actress for the indie movie Dagsin; Lotlot de Leon was also nominated (and lost) in the same category for the indie movie MRS.

“Ang saya,” Janine said with a laugh.

“And she didn’t even mention to me na magkalaban kami.

On her part, Lotlot won acting awards in India and in (Houston) USA for her lead role lead role in the indie movie 1st Sem.

And in an interview, Lotlot said that for the very first time, she didn’t feel sad that she lost in an awards night because the person that beat her is her own daughter!

“Talaga,” Janine again said with a laugh.

The impact to Janine of her very first acting award?

Janine is now being managed by her new manager, Leo Dominguez of LVD Management.

She will soon be seen in the mini-series Unbroken Hearts with Kiko Estrada, Assunta de Rossi and Cherie Gil.

Lotlot will be having a guest stint in the series.

Prior to his showbiz career in the Philippines barely a year ago, Filipino-American Kapuso hunk Matthias Rhoads had to resign from his day job in New York City.

“I came here to the Philippines for two weeks, I begged and begged my boss, two weeks’ vacation; and he said, ‘Nobody takes two weeks!’

“So I came here for two weeks, on the second week, confirmed, I have a job [as a model/actor[.”

He called his boss in NYC to tell him that he is resigning because he is now an artist in the Philippines!

At first, his boss wouldn’t believe Matthias!

“He goes, ‘Showbiz?! That’s completely different from insurance!’

“And you know, he wasn’t even mad, he says, ‘Wow good for you! I can see you doing that much more than what you’re doing with me!’

“He’s always mad at me at work.”

But Matthias knew that his former employer is happy for his newfound fame and fortune in the Philippines.

“Yeah, he was very impressed,” said Matthias, who after a stint in Meant To Be, is now the leading man of Marian Rivera in GMA’s Super Ma’am!
